The crew of the Coney Island Hot Weiner Shop, Tulsa.
In a famous newsreel, Rita Hayworth has come home from somewhere sporting a topcoat. Some European theater, probably. A reporter sticks a microphone in her face and asks her how it feels to be back in America. She says she just wants to eat a hot dog. As a line, it seems mildly rehearsed yet oddly genuine. “… a hot dog,” she says, then grins that shit-eating grin of hers. The face that launched a thousand slips. I remember being amazed to learn, whenever I did, that Rita Hayworth was born Margarita Carmen Cansino and was discovered dancing in Mexican nightclubs.
